Obstructive Hydrocephalus
Obstructive hydrocephalus (also called non-communicating hydrocephalus) is a condition where cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) builds up in the brain due to a physical blockage within the ventricular system, leading to increased pressure inside the skull.
It is different from communicating hydrocephalus, where CSF flow is not blocked but absorption is impaired.
How it happens
The brain normally produces and circulates CSF through the ventricles and around the brain and spinal cord. In obstructive hydrocephalus:
CSF is produced normally
Flow is blocked at a specific point in the ventricular pathway
